Danish artist Mie Olise Kjærgaard says she is interested in “Society as a Construction and the role of the Woman as a Construction.” Her paintings often feature women in situations where they are “being wild, fierce or just adventurous” and “experiencing life from the inside and out.” Here, a woman in a bold purple suit leans back in a relaxed pose of utter confidence as she gazes at the viewer. Kjærgaard’s painting technique of large brushstrokes and raw areas of color infuses the work with a bold energy and psychological punch. Kjærgaard has exhibited at Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City; Museum of Fine Art Houston; Museo de Arte Acarigua, Venezuela; Nikolaj Kunsthalle, Copenhagen; Torrance Art Museum, Los Angeles; and Himmerlands Kunstmuseum, Aars.
