Mark Leonard

WEAVING #3

2010
gouache and synthetic resin on panel
24 x 24 inches

Artist (and former Dallas Museum of Art Chief Conservator) Mark Leonard’s recent series of work features “visual weavings” of line and color where meticulous gradations of light and shadow create the warp and weft of woven lines. Leonard considers these works meditations on love and loss, saying “interactions of these two experiences (form) the framework of our lives.” In Weaving #3, colorful, vertical lines are contrasted against drained, grey horizontal lines, suggesting the interconnected dualities of life and death. In the background, soft bands of color suggest light moving across a landscape and the passage of time.
