PAPER FACE FLOWERS

I’m interested in pictorial events that are not narrative but visual and sometimes aspire to an unspoken punch line. – Ella Kruglyanskaya

Ella Kruglyanskaya’s work synthesizes images of women from the recent past taken from a variety sources, such as fashion magazines, graphic design, European painting, and film. Paper Face Flowers is a skillful trompe l’oeil oil painting of a fashion sketch with collaged paper flowers. The piece appears as if from another era and gives off the weird combination of aggressive attitude and manufactured beauty that is the hallmark of the fashion industry. Solo exhibitions of Kruglyanskaya’s work have been held at Tate Liverpool; Tramway, Glasgow; and The Power Station, Dallas, among others.
