paint on plywood, cutting board, and firewood
38 1/8 x 46 x 6 1/4 inches

The playful work of Sarah Braman incorporates familiar objects scavenged from vehicles, old buildings, and her home into compositions that riff on the internal structure and logic found in the works of Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly, and Gordon Matta-Clark. In Night Kitchen, Braman presents three forms of wood found inside the home – cutting board, plywood, and firewood – stained with lavender paint, bringing out the natural waves of the grain in the plywood, the rough texture of the chunk of wood, and the knife grooves on the cutting board. Braman lives and works in Brooklyn and Amherst, MA, and has been included in national and international solo and group shows.
