ANDFEDDEL

2013
pencil, graphite powder, and tape on paper
84 x 60 inches

Tony Lewis makes large-scale drawings that depict elements of text selected from a personal and political vocabulary. The text is then edited and composed to form new meaning. In ANDFEDDEL, Lewis makes thought out choices in arrangement by leaving obvious traces of faint guidelines. The word “and” is lifted by the tape and repositioned inversely right next to itself. Lewis keeps the work lively by connecting the words with a bold erratic pencil line, giving the viewer more than one possible combination for the text handsomely and tastefully presented before us. Tony Lewis lives and works in Chicago. His work has been exhibited in Chicago, New York, Raleigh, Milan, and Cologne.
