Instead of painting on the canvas, I’m painting through the canvas. – Analia Saban

Analia Saban investigates the most elemental components of a work of art to blur the boundary between painting, sculpture, photography, image, and object. Woven Angle Gradient as Weft #1 is from a body of work where Saban weaves thin strips of paint with linen, merging the materials that would normally be separated as support and expressive medium. Here, she creates a gradation of color as less of the linen fiber (the vertical “warp”) is woven over the strands of paint (the horizontal “weft”). Saban’s work is represented in the collections of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; LA MoCA, Los Angeles; LACMA, Los Angeles; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and Fundación Proa, Buenos Aires, among others.
