SEARCH FOR TRUE I

2018
glazed ceramic

Whether they are sculptural objects or traditional ceramic forms, Bruce M. Sherman’s ceramic works all possess the artist’s uniquely symbolic vocabulary and desire to portray universal ideas like rebirth and renewal, seeking and awareness, and transformation. Eyes, hands, and arrows appear often in his work, seen here in Search for True I, which suggests a self-reflective search for inner truth. The universal quality of Sherman’s symbols is heightened by the vase/goblet form – a historical object with ceremonial associations. Sherman lives and works in New York City, and he has exhibited his ceramic pieces in the US, Europe, and Mexico.
