BROKEN FLOWERS

2018
alkyd on canvas
58 x 42 inches

Botanical and floral motifs feature prominently in Chris Hood’s recent work. As references to nature, symbols of beauty, and classical art subjects, these elements allow the artist to explore a range of painterly concerns. In this work, flower parts bend, torque, and fragment into abstract lines and shapes in the background. Hood’s layering and staining techniques add to a complex space that morphs as the viewer’s eye moves around the painting. Hood lives and works in Los Angeles. His work has been included in exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles.
