I’m interested in a dissolution of the self into the sun and plants, into the night and death. – Sam Falls

LA-based Sam Falls’ artistic output varies wildly from project to project, and from impulse to impulse. Perhaps the most consistent aspect of his work is the role of light and process, a testament to his MFA in photography from the Bard/ICP program in New York. The elemental form in this work, generated by placing rocks on the fabric and exposing it to available weather conditions, becomes a primal symbol and evidence of an artist whose processes and connection to nature harken back to ancient methods of expression. Falls’ work has been shown internationally, and his work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the International Center for Photography, New York, among others.
