Large charcoal drawings filled with mythical, theatrical narratives characterize much of Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde’s recent work. Lately, the artist has developed a fictional autobiography where he moves through impossible scenarios and fantastical situations. In this work, an imposing lobby is the waiting room for guests coming to visit the artist. The ridiculously grandiose space sets an absurd, yet melancholic tone, emphasized by the cinematic scale and style of the drawing. Van de Velde has exhibited his work throughout Europe and the US.
