Beauty and decay occupy the same territory in Colombian-American artist Lina Puerta’s recent paintings. Her material choices – fabric, lace, artificial moss, and beads – are evocative for their cultural associations, as well as their physical properties. Untitled (Green 2) is a rich landscape of color and texture that shows signs of both deterioration and regeneration, evidence of the continuous cycle of life found in nature. Puerta has exhibited her work throughout the US, and she is the recipient of several fellowships and residencies.
