My work has always essentially been about translation, passing a subject through various processes on the way to a fixed or permanent state, with each different material influencing the creation of new forms. – Ricky Swallow

Vendor (Seated) comes out of Swallow’s fascination with roaming around flea markets in Los Angeles. He combines an ephemeral material (cardboard tubing) with an ephemeral experience (an interaction with flea market vendors) to make a permanent work that solidifies the interactions he has on his creative excursions. Swallow represented Australia at the 2005 Venice Biennale, and his work has been exhibited in the US and abroad.
