Notions of perception, framing, and screen media appear often in the recent work of Evan Gruzis. His series of expertly-rendered india ink still lifes all feature a dramatically back-lit object on a shelf. Bottle of Polish No. 3 depicts a bottle with the brush carefully balanced on top, a drop of liquid about to fall from the tip. Framed in a halo of seductive light and shown in high contrast, the object takes on the mysterious, seductive feel of the world of advertising and media. Gruzis’ work is in a number of private and public collections and has been exhibited worldwide.
