PARTY SOURCE

2014
acrylic and oil on canvas
20 x 16 inches

Julia Dault is a Toronto-born, Brooklyn-based artist that makes colorful abstract paintings layered with dynamic techniques that reveal their creation. In Party Source, Dault begins by applying and removing paint with a range of tools and actions, including drags, swipes, zigzags, and lines. The ground layers include fluorescent blues and reds which Dault makes partially visible by scraping off rectangular- and pie-shaped segments of black paint. In this exciting work, she seems to excavate slivers of the painting’s strata, seductively revealing the passage of time and process. Dault has been curated into group exhibitions at various institutions including the Perez Art Museum, Miami; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; and Maison Particulière, Brussels.
