ART STAND

2014
wood, wire, cloth, shoes, fiberglass, and clamp
50 x 14 x 26 inches

John Riepenhoff’s work explores ideas that build connections through artist communities and art history. “I try to ask questions about where value in art comes from and try to make the art function for the people involved in that system,” he says. In Art Stand, Riepenhoff makes a functional and fun sculpture that literally supports the arts. The owner of this piece can hang any of their works on Riepenhoff’s stand, creating a piece that allows Riepenhoff to build relationships even when he isn’t present. Riepenhoff lives and works in Milwaukee where he owns The Green Gallery. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Lynden Sculpture Garden, Milwaukee; Queens Park Railway Club, Glasgow; Museum of Eigg, Isle of Eigg; and Western Exhibitions, Chicago.
