Brian Bress is a Los Angeles-based artist and filmmaker that implements uncertainty in both the viewer and artist as the core element of his work. This uncertainty functions as a contributing factor to the imaginative humor that frames his intentions, ultimately revealing new emotions and new meanings. In his video portraits, Bress challenges the structure of the picture plane’s inherent qualities found in painting and theater. Brian Bress received his MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. The New Museum in New York featured his video Status Report in their theater earlier this year. Bress has exhibited his work at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philidelphia; Arthouse, Austin; Parrish Art Museum, South Hampton; University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa; and at the Salt Lake Art Center, Salt Lake City. His video Under Cover was included in the landmark exhibition California Video at the Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
